BAFFLE CREEK is situated between the cities of Bundaberg and Gladstone.
Baffle Creek the major stream of the greater Baffle Catchment Area, enters the Pacific Ocean, between the Latitudes 24degrees, 10’s and 24degrees, 45’s. Baffle Creek is 117 kilometres long, with tidal reach of 35 kilometres which ceases at Essendean Bridge and it’s catchment covers an area of some 2,934 square kilometres.
The Baffle Creek System is unique among Queensland Waterways, relatively undisturbed and boasting prolific bird, animal and aquatic life and situated in one of the most equitable climates on earth.
This is one of the closest mainland access points to the Great Barrier Reef, and the fishing and diving is superb. The neighbouring National Parks provide an escape to peaceful surrounds. Both Agnes Waters and 1770 boast excellent accommodation choices ranging from basic camping through to the utmost in luxury.
Wartburg/Baffle Creek Wartburg was a small township formed on the banks of Baffle Creek by German immigrants. Today, this area is called Baffle Creek and is popular for fishing and boating activities. This is a fisherman’s paradise laying claim to some of the best mud crab areas in the country.
Lowmead Lowmead lies on the beautiful upper reaches of the freshwater Baffle and is also an area of interest for rock-hounds as amethyst are sometimes found north-west of the town.
Miriam Vale The administrative centre of the Miriam Vale Shire, Miriam Vale and is a well-known stopover on the Bruce Highway. It is considered the gateway to the "Discovery Coast". The Discovery Coast Information Centre is located here and information on the attractions of the Baffle Creek area can be readily obtained. Miriam Vale supports timber, beef and dairy industries.
Rules Beach A secluded beach on the northern side of the Baffle Creek. The river itself can be accessed at the Flat Rock Picnic Reserve.
Rosedale Rosedale is the southern gateway to Baffle Creek and the "Discovery Coast" and lies on Bottle Creek - a tributary of the Baffle. Grazing, dairying, timber and small crops are the major industries.
Winfield A peaceful fishing village with good boat launching facilities giving easy access to Baffle Creek. |
